Full Day Tarangire Safari

Game Drive 1 day June to October for peak wildlife Tarangire Nature Camp
Duration 1 day
Best Time June to October for peak wildlife
Category Game Drive

Explore the remote southern reaches of Tarangire National Park, including the Silale Swamps and areas rarely visited by other safari vehicles.

For guests who want to discover the wilder, less-visited corners of Tarangire National Park, our full-day safari ventures deep into the southern sector — an area of vast seasonal swamps, remote grasslands, and extraordinary wildlife concentrations that few visitors ever reach. You depart camp after an early breakfast with a packed picnic lunch prepared by our kitchen team, and you will not return until late afternoon.

The journey south follows the course of the Tarangire River, passing through increasingly remote and untouched landscapes. The Silale Swamps, a vast seasonal wetland in the heart of the park, attract enormous concentrations of wildlife during the dry season. Thousands of buffalo, wildebeest, and zebra converge here, along with their predators. The swamps also support large pods of hippo and are one of the best areas in the park for spotting the endangered African wild dog, which hunts in coordinated packs across the open grasslands.

Lunch is served in a shaded spot selected by your guide — perhaps under a magnificent baobab tree or beside a quiet stretch of river. The afternoon continues with exploration of the southern woodlands, where gerenuk — the long-necked antelope that stands on its hind legs to browse — and fringe-eared oryx can be found. These are species that are difficult to see elsewhere on the northern circuit, making southern Tarangire a genuinely unique safari destination. The return drive follows a different route through the western hills, offering panoramic views across the park to the distant outline of the Kondoa Escarpment. You arrive back at camp by 5:30 pm, with a full day of exploration behind you and stories to share over dinner.
