Drift in silence over the Central Serengeti at sunrise, then touch down to a champagne bush breakfast on the plains — the most magical way to see the Serengeti.
A hot air balloon safari is, for many guests, the single most unforgettable hour of their entire trip. Long before dawn, our team transfers you to the launch site on the Central Serengeti plains, where the balloons are being inflated in the dark by the glow of their burners. As the first light touches the horizon, you lift off and rise gently above the Seronera Valley.
For around an hour you drift in near-total silence — the only sound the occasional roar of the burner — as the Serengeti unfolds beneath you in every direction. From the basket you look down on herds of wildebeest and zebra, elephants moving through the acacia, hippo pods in the rivers, and, during the migration season, the great columns of the herds threading across the plains. The perspective is impossible to capture from a vehicle: the sheer scale of the ecosystem, the meandering rivers, the granite kopjes, and the endless golden grassland stretching to the curve of the earth.
After a feather-light landing, you are welcomed with a sparkling-wine toast and a full champagne bush breakfast served on white linen out on the plains, in the long tradition of Serengeti ballooning. You receive a flight certificate before being driven back to camp via a game drive. Balloon safaris are operated by licensed, professional balloon companies, are weather-dependent, carry an additional cost, and should be booked in advance — our reservations team will arrange everything and confirm availability for your dates.
